Draw Near!
Sunday was the first in a series of messages that the Lord has laid upon my heart based on Isaiah 55. God spoke the words “Draw near” into my heart as I prayed about our service to Him in 2009. May I challenge those of you who are reading this blog to see what adjustments could be made in your life that would release you to walk more closely with the Lord. One of our young men just shared with me his resolve to be involved in our Monday night evangelism ministry. I must tell you that nothing causes me to draw near to the Lord more than reaching out to others in His name. In our program you are trained and then paired with more experienced visitors and sent out to share the love of Christ. We come back and share with one another so that our experience is multiplied.
Going on one of our mission trips will help you to draw near to the Lord. We have now been asked to help a church in Galveston which was hit hard by the hurricane. We need people to step forward and meet that need. We have just had another successful ministry in Eagle Pass and can easily make another trip this year. This is a trip of only a few hours. We are going back to Romania and to Myanmar this summer. Each of these opportunities and countless others create an environment where you can sense God working through you to accomplish his purpose.
Finally, never let activity be a substitue for personal prayer and time in the Word. Our service needs to arise from time spent in humility before the Lord. Before Isaiah could say, “Here am I. Send me.” He said, ” Woe is me for I am undone.” (Isaiah 6) We need to be thoroughly cleansed so that God has a clean vessel for His use.
